Record Numbers To Tackle The Mighty Ten Under The Ben
With only four days to go until the Benromach 10 Under The Ben mountain bike endurance race, the flagship event of the Benromach Three Tens Series, a record number of endurance riders have signed up to take on the awesome challenge. On Saturday 30 May 2009, a week before the 2009 Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup hits Fort William - the Outdoor Capital of the UK, 950 participants from all over the UK, riding solo or in relay teams of two, three or four, will do battle with Forestry Commission Scotland's Leanachan Forest, the Highland midge and whatever the west coast weather has in store. Frazer Coupland, from No Fuss Events, said: The No Fuss team are looking forward to our biggest and best 10 Under the Ben. The new course will introduce riders to some new areas of the forest and Britain's highest race registration is bound to be a blast with a full team from Benromach on hand to guide advise and educate!' The three challenging races in the The Benromach Three Tens Series - 10 Under The Ben, 10 At Kirroughtree and 10 More In Moray - are run on an endurance format to see who can complete the most laps of a 10 mile course in a grueling 10 hours. Most importantly all three events give recreational riders, racers, off road riders and weekend warriors an opportunity to get on their bikes, ride great courses with loads of like minded people whilst having a good time in a fun and relaxed environment. Frazer Coupland added: 'We are really pleased with the awesome course that we have for 2009 and how it is riding. We have the same healthy amount of singletrack and natural sections including sections built by the Guru Hedderwick for the 2007 World Championships. 'The start is going to involve a descent in procession down to the North Face Car Park affording riders uninterrupted views of the north face of Ben Nevis, the UK's highest mountain. Once released riders will have a long forest road climb before descending the legendary Berminator and through Transition. Last year's Splash, which caused problems last year, has benefitted from some 'TLC' and the token 'muddy bit' should definitely live up to its name again. Great riding on some fantastic trails!' The Benromach 10 Under The Ben centre will be at The Nevis Range car park again this year. On Friday 29 May participants will be invited to take a free gondola ride to The Snowgoose Restaurant, which sits at 655m on the face of Aonach Mor, for the highest pre-race registration of any mountain bike race in the UK. Competitors will then have the opportunity to sit down with other riders and talk tactics over a slap up meal and enjoy the usual No Fuss pre-race craic and entertainment.
